Starting in the spring of 2006, McKinney Little League will be divided into 4 separate Little League charters as a result of the population growth the McKinney area has seen. The new league boundaries are as follows:
Little League National has guidelines around how large the population needs to be to define a league. Due to McKinney's radical growth in the last several years, we began to vastly exceed the guidelines defined.
From a regular season standpoint, these changes will be essentially transparent. There will still be one Little League board (technically, there will be 4, but they will all have the same members), the leagues will play against each other in regular season games, and teams will probably be made up of kids from technically different leagues.
Where we will see the difference is when it comes time for All-Stars at the end of each spring season. McKinney will now have the opportunity to send up to 4 all star teams to compete in the district tournament from each age group. Each league will be able to assemble a team made up of players that reside within the corresponding boundaries. So we could possibly send a team from McKinney Little League, made up of players that live in this area, AND a team from East McKinney Little League made up of kids that live in this area, AND a team from West McKinney made up of kids that live in this area, AND a team from North McKinney made up of kids that live in this area.
As always, we will not turn anyone away who wants to come play ball with us. Regardless of address, financial ability, or any other factor you can think of. However, although you can join us for the regular season, you will not be permitted on any All Star team from McKinney Little League. Little League National is very strict on this point, and so we must be as well.
Since all the leagues will be playing as one combined league, there will be no changes to existing teams, and no restrictions on teams forming in the future.
This is a fantastic development for McKinney Little League. Everyone wins in this deal. More kids can play Little League baseball from all across Collin County. McKinney Little Leagues boundaries now extend west to the Denton county line, North to the Grayson county line, and South in to part of Allen. A lot more kids will get to experience the all stars. Last spring, McKinney Little League assembled 4 teams to compete in the District 8 tournament. That is roughly 60 kids that got to be an all star out of around 1000 that were in the league. This season, we have the opportunity to send up to 16 teams (4 teams from each league) to the district tournament. That comes to 240 kids that could potentially be on an all star team.
Lets say for example that McKinney east only has 9 players that are interested in participating in the all stars, and McKinney North only has 8 players that are interested in being an all star. McKinney East and McKinney North have the option to 'merge' for the all star tournament and form 1 team.
These new boundaries will NOT affect REGULAR SEASON teams, schedules, playing locations, rules, or any other aspect of how we have done things for the last several years. The only time the new leagues will be a factor is when we are talking about all stars.
